Men’s Weekend Review – 29th and 30th August
Stone In Oxney (A)
Another fine game on Saturday at Stone in Oxney which for most of us was a new ground and great pub! Having lost a wicket to the first ball of the game, unbeaten half centuries for Thomas Lenham and Guy Kemsley saw us to 177 for 2.
Five wickets for Ben Ramsay, his first 5 for in adult cricket was key to our victory, with two stunning slip catches for Ramsay senior, one off each son’s bowling also helped.
TMCC’s game on Sunday 30/8/20 Vs Southborough, started with a last minute captain substitution because James Worrall was called up on work duties. Stand in captain Bill Calvert won the toss and decided to bat; our innings started well with the two Jakes (Smyth and Tunnicliff) putting on a 50 run opening partnership.
Following this, wickets fell regularly around Jake Smyth who batted superbly for 106 arround the chaos. After Jake got out, some great lower order hitting from Angus and Dan Taylor got us up to a competitive 213.
Our bowling effort also started well with Southborough’s captain being dismissed for a duck in the second over. Things went down hill after this, with Southborough batting very fluently during a long second wicket partnership.
A mini collapse after drinks gave us a sniff of bowling them out; thanks mainly to 3 wickets from Dan Taylor. One of these wickets came from a great catch in the deep by son Joe, continuing a strong theme of father son combinations across the weekend. Unfortunately the collapse stopped with Southborough 5 down and they chased down the target with 9 overs to spare.
